LinkedIn is a very powerful on-line business networking site and frequented by high profile professionals such as CEOs as well as as employees in almost all organizations that are worth mentioning, worldwide.

When used as a tool to initiate dialog with potential partners, recruits and business associates, the success rate and outcome is unprecedented. Linkedin is also used as an online discussion board and to perform background checks on companies and people (in a non sinister manner).

When it comes to doing business with a potential partner or organization, in this case example – a Digital Branding and Advertising agency, where the primary mode of communication for success is online interaction, a trick / tool was discovered by accident – but is highly effective:

Premium members of LinkediN can send out Inmails and messages. One way to vet a responsible Digital Advertising agency or “Interactive Advertising Agency” is to see how much attention they pay to online communication!

Send a few messages to key people in the company. If your in-mail or invite or message “expires” as LinkediN calls it when there is no response, you can be partly assured where the company stands on their digital or interactive Communications Strategy.

The current buzzword in Advertising is :D IGITAL: we aim to use “Digital” as a means of communicating a brand message and spread awareness.

Traditional advertising agencies are falling over themselves claiming to be digitally enhanced. There is even a new breed of Digital agencies now. Meanwhile right here on Linkedin, let's see how many shortcomings can be identified amongst Digital Agencies AND the people who run them for instance:

    1) How many profiles of members here Do not have an image? what does this say about your ability to qualify as the person to go to, to spread a brand message, when you do not take your Digital presence seriously?

    2) How long does it take your agency to reply an inquiry sent via your website? Does it get routed to the correct person or is it going to a catch-all- email box

    3) Is your Linkedin contact address up-to-date?

    4) So you say your Agency is Digital Savvy, do you have Twitter account (yes it's the basics just as you tell your client that they need a banner and a facebook page to do social marketing)

    5) Does your digital agency website have a blog where you share knowledge?

    6) Are you truly using “Digital” technology to communicate with potential clients and show them your digital prowess? e.g Live Chat on your site?

    Chip in some more examples…
